MAJAL partner in the management of the Architecture Museum
The Minister of Urban and Regional Planning, Mr. Driss Merroun inaugurated the first museum of architecture, Friday, September 9, with the presence of the Head of Government Mr. Abdelillah Benkirane.
This new institution, domiciled in a pavilion recently built within the National Architecture School of Rabat, has for main missions to participate in the safeguarding of the collective memory related to the Moroccan civilization, to promote the architectural culture and offer to the community of architects, professionals and researchers a platform for exposure and sharing.
The museum is organized around the idea of a trip back in the time allowing to navigate in the history of Moroccan architecture since the antique period, having known the building of Carthaginian and Roman cities until modern and contemporary times through the medieval era characterized by the construction of medinas, ksours and kasbahs.
To illustrate this trip, the museum was equipped with aspecial collection that includes 14 models of historical monuments or portions of symbolic urban fabricsrealized by Urban Agencies.
Outside the inauguration of the Museum, a master agreement relating to the creation of the museum was concluded between the Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning, the Federation of Urban Agencies in Morocco (MAJAL), the National Order of the Architects and the National School of Architecture in Rabat. The convention provides the creation of a committee in charge of the development and monitoring of the Museum chaired by the Minister and made up of representatives of the four involved institutional actors.
